Potassium applications reduced cesium uptake and altered strontium translocation in soybean plants

چکیده
After the Tokyo Electric Power Company’s Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Plant accident in 2011, radioactive cesium (RCs) was released greater concentrations than strontium (RSr) surrounding environment. Most of countermeasures were developed to mitigate RCs transfer from soil plants. However, avoid what has happened after Chernobyl and Mayak accidents, preventing RSr plants should be a priority. Although application potassium (K) fertilizers is most effective method for agricultural crops absorbing contaminated fields, this implementation increases cost labor requirements. Considering preparedness nuclear it remains unclear how countermeasure will affected if are simultaneously. We aimed explore effect K applications on (Cs) (Sr) uptake their interaction with correlation other elements soybean soil. The field experiments conducted Prefecture, Japan, using different (i.e., no, normal, high applications). dry weight mineral K, Cs, Sr, calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), nitrogen (N) concentration exchangeable (ExK), Cs (ExCs), Sr (ExSr), Ca (ExCa), Mg (ExMg), NH4+ (ammonium), NO3- (nitrate) soils evaluated. This study revealed that reduced Ca, but did not affect ExSr, ExCa, ExMg change Sr. On hand, plant especially at later growth stage, which indicates re-translocation negatively regulated by concentration.

Relative Uptake and Translocation of Potassium and Cesium in Barley.
The ability of plants to absorb ions selectively is a major reason for the preference for chemical rather than physical theories of ion uptake (11), yet in spite of this, comparatively little attention has been paid to this property. Thus far, selectivity between alkali cations has been examined in excised barley roots (6) in beet discs (12) and in whole plants (1,4). In recent years the relati...

The absorption characteristics of Cd(2+) by 10- to 12-day-old soybean plants (Glycine max cv Williams) were investigated with respect to influence of Cd concentration on adsorption to root surfaces, root absorption, transport kinetics and interaction with the nutrient cations Cu(2+), Fe(2+), Mn(2+), and Zn(2+). The fraction of nonexchangeable Cd bound to roots remained relatively constant at 20...

متن کاملSelective chemical binding enhances cesium tolerance in plants through inhibition of cesium uptake
High concentrations of cesium (Cs(+)) inhibit plant growth but the detailed mechanisms of Cs(+) uptake, transport and response in plants are not well known. In order to identify small molecules with a capacity to enhance plant tolerance to Cs(+), chemical library screening was performed using Arabidopsis. Of 10,000 chemicals tested, five compounds were confirmed as Cs(+) tolerance enhancers. Fu...
